This incredible continent would take several lifetimes to truly discover. From the Galapagos Islands in the pacific and the Amazon basin raining into the Atlantic, to the highest city on earth, this is a world unto itself. Defined by stunning beauty and abundance, post-Colombian South America is also defined by staggering inequality and historic injustice.
The two most spoken languages – Spanish and Portuguese – are an obvious colonial legacy, but millions of people also speak Quechua (Inca), Aymara, Mapuche, Guarani and dozens of other languages. This continent is complicated and fascinating.
